Murudeshwar

Murudeshwara

                       Murudeshwara Temple : This temple is built on the Kanduka Hill which is surrounded on three sides by the waters of the Arabian Sea.
                  
                        Murudeshwara is a town in the Bhatkal Taluk of Uttara Kannada district in the state of Karnataka, India. "Murudeshwara" is another name of the Hindu god Shiva. Famous for the world's second-tallest Shiva statue, Murudeshwara beach town lies on the coast of the Arabian Sea and is also famous for the Murudeshwara Temple. The nearest airport to Murudeshwar is Mangalore International Airport at distance of 160 kilometre. Murudeshwar has railway station on Konkan railway route

Raja Gopura

 

Location :

                       This temple is built on the Kanduka Hill which is surrounded on three sides by the waters of the Arabian Sea. It is dedicated to the Lord Shiva, and a 20-storied Gopura is constructed at the temple. Two life-size elephants in concrete stand guard at the steps leading to it. The entire temple and temple complex, including the 237.5-feet-tall Raja Gopura, is one among the tallest, was constructed to its present form by businessman and philanthropist R. N. Shetty

Nilgiri Flycatcher

                         The Nilgiri Flycatcher (Eumyias albicaudatus) is an Old World flycatcher with a very restricted range in the hills of southern India. It was formerly referred to as the Nilgiri Verditer Flycatcher because of its similarity to the Verditer Flycatcher, a winter migrant to the Nilgiris, which however has distinct dark lores and a lighter shade of blue. There are two small white patches at the base of the tail. It is found mainly in the higher altitude shola forests of the Western Ghats and the Nilgiris.

 Red-whiskered Bulbul

                                    The Red-whiskered Bulbul is a passerine bird found in Asia. It is a member of the bulbul family. It is a resident frugivore found mainly in tropical Asia.

About Upper Bhawani Lake


Upper Bhavani Lake is situated at a distance of 10 km from Korakundah and over 20 km from Avalanche. The route to Upper Bhavani is replete with sholas trees and the entire area is a wildlife habitat. Tourists can go for trekking from Bangithapal through Sispara to the Silent Valley. For trekking in this region, it is necessary to get permission from the forest department.

There is a huge dam on this lake, which is the major source of water for the nearby regions. This Upper Bhavani Dam is just 60 km from Ooty and is the ideal way to reach the Mukurthi National Park. There is a wildlife sanctuary at this place, which covers an area of 70 sq. km and is home to Nilgiri Tahr. This sanctuary also features sambhar, giant squirrels, leopards, tigers, jungle cats, wild dogs and jackals, among others.


The entire region of Upper Bhavani, which gets over 5000 mm of annual rainfall, is dominated by the sholas and wattle plantations. This place is the perfect location for hiking, trekking and walking holidays. With the reservoir in the backdrop, there are few guest houses in Upper Bhavani for overnight stays.

          Silent Valley National Park (Malayalam: സൈലന്റ് വാലീ നാഷണല്‍ പാര്‍ക്ക്‌ ), (Core zone: 236.74 square kilometers (91 sq mi)) is located in the Nilgiri Hills, Palakkad District in Kerala, South India. The area in this national park was historically explored in 1847 by the botanist Robert Wight, and is associated with Hindu legend.

          The park is one of the last undisturbed tracts of South Western Ghats mountain rain forests and tropical moist evergreen forest in India. Contiguous with the proposed Karimpuzha National Park (225 km²) to the north and Mukurthi National Park (78.46 km²) to the north-east, it is the core of the Nilgiri International Biosphere Reserve (1,455.4 km²), and is part of The Western Ghats World Heritage Site, Nilgiri Sub-Cluster (6,000+ km²) THUNDER consideration by UNESCO.

          Plans for a hydroelectric project that threatened the parks high diversity of wildlife stimulated an environmentalist Social Movement in the 1970s called Save Silent Valley which resulted in cancellation of the project and creation of the park in 1980. The visitors' centre for the park is at Sairandhri.

                           Indian giant squirrel, OR  Malabar giant squirrel

                                      The Indian giant squirrel, or Malabar giant squirrel, (Ratufa indica) is a large tree squirrel species genus Ratufa native to India. It is a large-bodied diurnal, arboreal, and herbivorous squirrel found in South Asia















Kodachadri

                  Kodachadri is a mountain peak with dense forests (altitude - 1343 metres above sea level) in the Western Ghats in South India (Shimoga Dist., Karnataka State). It is declared as natural heritage site by Government Karnataka

Location :

                 Kodachadri forms a background to the famous temple of Mookambika in Kollur. It is located at a distance of 21 km from Kollur and 15 km from Nagodi village, in Hosanagara taluk. There are different routes to reach the Peak of Kodachadri and the difficulty varies highly with respect to the route chosen. However it is challenging to reach the peak in monsoon due to heavy rains that make the routes slippery. Kodachadri receives an annual rain fall of 500 cm to 750 cm and it rains for about eight months in a year
